Obligation to register packagings for goods

From 01.07.2022 on, all manufacturers, traders and importers who are selling goods in packagings typically accumulating as waste with private end consumers after being used on the German market, are obliged to register their packaging with the “packaging register” (Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister). This also applies to companies that already participate in waste management systems - so-called dual systems. Furthermore, the obligation applies not only to German companies, but also to manufacturers and exporters located outside Germany if and to the extent they are delivering products to Germany in packagings typically accumulating as waste with private final consumers after being used. If you as an affected company have not yet been informed about this obligation by one of your fulfilment service providers, please note that unregistered packaged goods may no longer be distributed in Germany from 01.07.2022!
