Increased transparency, increased liability: stricter requirements on product information in 2026
The German Unfair Competition Act (UWG) will be significantly stricter starting September 27, 2026 with a focus on public information e. g. in online shops. Environmental-related statements such as “sustainable” or “environmentally friendly,” “resource-efficient,” “CO₂-reduced,” or “climate-neutral” may no longer be made without appropriate evidence.
