Our partner, Dr. Jörg-Michael Scheil, will give a presentation on the topic “Forced relocation in China” during the Chinaforum Breakfast club, that will take place on November 13, 2018 in Munich.
Foreign investors and businesses are often unaware of the fact that land and soil cannot be purchased under the Chinese law; one can only obtain land-use rights, which are limited in time. In the past, allocations of land for industrial purposes were often executed in absence of urban planners or environmental specialists. As a result, many firms are nowadays “asked” to leave their current locations and rebuild new factories in designated industrial parks well outside of cities.
Dr. Scheil will talk about his practical experience with forced relocations that companies had faced and their consequences for foreign investors. In addition, he will discuss the progressively changing legal status of “land-user” in China, while comparing it with the well-known European concept of landowner.
